THE WORLD CURRENT — Different Nations. One World. One Voice.

Africa. Britain. America. The World.

A global news platform being built from the UK, connected to Africa, reporting the world. Not another Nigerian news website. Not another UK-only newspaper. A publication where Africa and the global African diaspora sit alongside Britain and America — not underneath them.

The name

Two words, both deliberate.

01

World

Not restricted by geography. The newsroom covers the UK, the USA, Nigeria, Ghana, Africa and the wider world — and the architecture is built so dedicated editions can stand up without rebuilding the platform.

02

Current

Current affairs. What is happening now. The constant flow of information around the world. And a movement — people, ideas, cultures and stories travelling between nations.

03

Together

A world that is constantly moving, changing and connected. The master brand always remains THE WORLD CURRENT™, whatever edition sits beneath it.

Editorial coverage

A newsroom, not a blog.

Serious enough to cover elections, governments, economics and international affairs. Engaging enough that people visit for entertainment, sport, lifestyle, culture and the story everyone is talking about.

  • UKDomestic news for a reader in Manchester as readily as one in London.
  • USAAmerican politics, business and culture for readers on both sides of the Atlantic.
  • NigeriaReported properly, not summarised from somebody else’s wire copy.
  • GhanaIts own desk, for readers in Accra and everyone following from abroad.
  • AfricaBusiness, entrepreneurship, entertainment, culture, politics and innovation across the continent.
  • WorldBusiness, politics, entertainment, sport and lifestyle, wherever the story is.
The diaspora is the bridge

Someone can be Nigerian and British.

Ghanaian and American. African and European. Living in London while investing in Lagos. Living in New York while following entertainment from Accra.

Millions of people hold connections that span several countries at once, and most publications ask them to choose which half of themselves to read about. THE WORLD CURRENT is being built to understand that modern global identity rather than pick a side of it — which is what makes it the information bridge between Africa, the diaspora and the wider world.

Credibility matters more

Speed matters. Traffic matters. Virality matters. But the aim is a publication people trust, not simply one they click. News, reporting, analysis, opinion, sponsored content, press releases and Foundation content will each be labelled for what they are — a distinction that only becomes more important as a publication grows.

What you get

Inside THE WORLD CURRENT™.

Breaking, live and developing

The labels a real newsroom needs — BREAKING, LIVE, EXCLUSIVE, DEVELOPING, ANALYSIS, OPINION, INTERVIEW — built in rather than improvised per story.

One story leads to another

Related, recommended and most-read alongside every article, so a reader rarely reaches a dead end.

A commercial platform from day one

Advertising, sponsorship, partnerships and syndication designed into the architecture rather than awkwardly added later.

Before you ask

The questions that come up.

Is The World Current publishing yet?
Not yet. It is in development. This page sets out what it is being built to be, and the masthead it will carry.
Is this a Nigerian news site or a British one?
Neither, and both. It originates in the UK and reports the world, with Africa and the global African diaspora sitting alongside Britain and America rather than beneath them. A reader in Manchester should find UK news, a reader in Lagos should find Nigerian news, and every reader should be able to see what is happening across the world.
How does it relate to the Achebe Hope Foundation?
It is a Foundation initiative — that is its origin and its purpose. Editorially it stands on its own, with its own newsroom identity and clear labelling separating news, analysis, opinion, sponsored content and Foundation content.
Will there be editions for other countries?
That is what the architecture is being built for — The World Current UK, USA, Nigeria, Ghana and Africa, each able to stand up without rebuilding the platform. The master brand always remains THE WORLD CURRENT™.
Can I write for it or partner with it?
Yes — correspondents, contributors and commercial partners are all being sought now rather than after launch. The contact page reaches the right people.

The intention is a network spanning London, Lagos, Accra, Abuja, New York and Washington. If you write, report, film or want to partner with the publication, say so now rather than later.
